This article concerns the error estimate of approximate solutions of second order elliptic problems presented in the variational form \[ B(u,v) = G(v), \quad \forall v\in H \text{-- Hilbert space} \] with \[ B(u,v)=\int_{\Omega}A \nabla u\nabla v +(b\nabla u +c u)v dx, \quad G(v)=\int_{\Omega} f v dx +\int_{\partial\Omega_{n}}g v ds,\quad \Omega\subset \mathbb R^{3}. \] Using the finite element method on the tetrahedral partition of \(\Omega\) an a posteriori error estimation is constructed based on the face residual term. Numerical results on a variety of test problems for this error are also presented.
