The authors develop an integral version of Deligne cohomology for smooth proper real varieties. The refinement comes from the employment of \(\mathrm{Gal}({\mathbb C}/{\mathbb R})\)-Bredon equivariant cohomology in the place of singular cohomology, and the theory aims at giving more precise information about the 2-primary components of regulators. This Bredon equivariant cohomology theory, different from the usual Borel construction, was developed by Lewis et al. It uses coefficient systems or even Mackey functors, and is bigraded when the group is \({\mathbb Z}/2\). To define integral Deligne cohomology for real varieties, the authors employ the result of H. Yang to express the Bredon equivaraint cohomology in terms of a complex of sheaves \({\mathbb Z}(p)_{{\mathcal B}r}\) in the place of the usual constant sheaf \({\mathbb Z}(p)\), and they map this complex into the complex of differential forms. Then they proceed to the definition of Deligne cohomology in the usual way. Some properties of this cohomology theory are presented. Also the weights 1 and 2 cases are studied. More extensions and applications of the theory will be developed in future works.
