The classical Trotter-Kato theorem relates the convergence of a sequence of \(C_0\)-semigroups on a Banach space to the convergence of the corresponding generators and their resolvents, in each case for the strong operator topology. It is known that the direct \textit{weak} analogue of this theorem (i.e., by replacing the strong convergence of the resolvent sequence by the weak convergence) fails, see [\textit{T. Eisner} and \textit{A. Serény}, Taiwanese J. Math. 14, No.~4, 1411--1416 (2010; Zbl 1238.47025)]. In the paper under review, the author proves a result of the Trotter-Kato type in the weak topology. Let \(\{A^\varepsilon\}_{\varepsilon>0}\) be a family of quasi \(m\)-accretive linear operators in a Hilbert space \({\mathcal H}\) and denote by \(J_\lambda^\varepsilon\) the resolvent of \(A^\varepsilon\). Under certain conditions, the result states that if, for any \(x \in {\mathcal H}\) and \(k = 1,2,\dots\), the sequence \(\left(J_\lambda^\varepsilon\right)^k x\) converges weakly to \(\left(J_\lambda\right)^k x\) as \(\varepsilon \to 0\), where \(J_\lambda\) is the resolvent of a linear quasi \(m\)-accretive operator \(A\) in \(\mathcal H\), then the sequence of the semigroups generated by \(-A^\varepsilon\) tends weakly to the semigroup generated by \(-A\), uniformly with respect to \(t\) on compact intervals. An application is made to the asymptotic behavior of a singular perturbation problem associated to a first order hyperbolic problem with diffusion. Other versions of Trotter-Kato type theorem in the weak topology have been proved by \textit{Y. Kōmura} and \textit{K. Furuya} [Adv. Math. Sci. Appl. 20, No.~1, 91--105 (2010; Zbl 1226.47044)] and \textit{K. Furuya} [Adv. Math. Sci. Appl. 20, No.~1, 143--152 (2010; Zbl 1231.47037)].
