This very interesting article deals with a rather natural question explicitly asked by \textit{J. Bonet} and \textit{P. Domański} [J. Funct. Anal. 230, No. 2, 329--381 (2006; Zbl 1094.46006)]: If \(X \subseteq \mathbb{R}^n\) is open and \(P(D): \mathcal{D}'(X) \to \mathcal{D}'(X)\) is a surjective linear partial differential operator with constant coefficients on the space of Schwartz distributions, is \(P^+(D)\) then also surjective on \(\mathcal{D}'(X\times \mathbb{R})\) (where \(P^+(x_1,\dots,x_{n+1})=P(x_1,\dots,x_n)\), i.e., the last variable only serves as a parameter)? By very clever applications of deep results on the propagation of singularities due to Hörmander the author gives an affirmative answer under additional geometric conditions for \(X\) and, in particular, for plane sets \(X \subseteq \mathbb{R}^2\). This result is related to the author's recent solution [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 386, No. 1, 125--134 (2012; Zbl 1248.35044)] of a problem of Trèves who conjectured that, for plane sets, surjectivity of \(P(D)\) for smooth functions is equivalent to the surjectivity for distributions. It should be mentioned that for higher dimensions the problem of Bonet and Domański has a negative answer which is again due to \textit{T. Kalmes} [Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 44, No. 3, 610--614 (2012; Zbl 1252.35119)].
