The author discusses the problem of sharp inequalities for linear operators on the set of trigonometric polynomials with respect to integral functionals \[ \int _0^{2\pi}\phi (|f(x)|)\,dx. \] He gives a solution of the problem on trigonometric polynomials with given leading harmonic of least deviation from zero with respect to such functionals over the set of all functions \(\phi\) defined, nonnegative and nondecreasing on the semiaxis \([0,+\infty )\). The paper, with a long list of references, starts with an introduction that the author calls ``prehistory'', and it also contains general considerations on sharp inequalities for trigonometric polynomials with respect to integral functionals. The last section contains the following result which is illustrative: let \({F}_n(\mathbb{R})\) be the set of trigonometric polynomials of order \(n\), and let \(\Phi\) be the set of functions \(\phi\) that are defined, nonnegative and nondecreasing on the semiaxis \([0,+\infty)\). Theorem. For any function \(\phi \in \Phi\) and any \(n\geq 1\), the following inequality holds on the set \({F}_n(\mathbb{R})\): \[ \int _0^{2\pi}\phi (|f_n(t)|)\,dt\geq {1\over \sqrt{2n}}\int _0^{2\pi }\phi (|a_n\cos nt+b_n\sin nt |)\,dt,\quad f_n\in {F}_n(\mathbb{R}). \] The inequality is unimprovable over the set of all functions \(\phi \in \Phi \) for any \(n\geq 1\).
