The paper deals with the so called net spaces \(N_{p,q}(M, \mu)\), \(0<p,q\leq \infty\), in a general measure space and for a fixed subset \(M\) of \(\mu\)-measurable sets of positive and finite measure. The spaces, previously introduced in [\textit{E. D. Nursultanov}, Sb. Math. 189, No. 3, 399--419 (1998); translation from Mat. Sb. 189, No. 3, 83--102 (1998; Zbl 0922.46027)] in the case of \(\mu\) being the \(n\)-dimensional Lebesgue measure, are a generalization of the Lorentz spaces \(L^{p,q}\) and they depend on the distribution of the oscillation and singularities of functions. Results on embeddings and interpolation properties for net spaces are studied and, in particular, necessary and sufficient conditions for the boundedness of integral operators in weighted Lorentz spaces are obtained. Some of the conditions involved require that the corresponding kernel of such operators belongs to certain net spaces. The paper contains, as an application, an estimate of the norms of the \(n\)-th Cesàro means or \(n\)-th partial sum of Fourier series of functions in some weighted Lebesgue spaces.
