Let \(G\) be a complex connected linear algebraic group with Lie algebra \(\mathfrak{g}\), \(f\in\mathfrak{g}^ \ast\) and \(G(f)\) its stabilizer w.r.t the coadjoint action. The Lie algebra \(\mathfrak{g}\) is called quasi-reductive if there are elements \(f\in\mathfrak{g}^ \ast\) such that \(G(f)/Z\) is a reductive subgroup of \(\text{GL}(\mathfrak{g})\), \(Z\) being the center. A biparabolic subalgebra of a semisimple Lie algebra \(\mathfrak{s}\) is the intersection of two parabolic subalgebras whose sum is \(\mathfrak{s}\). The main result of the paper is to complete the classification of quasi-reductive parabolic subalgebras of simple Lie algebras. In the classical case this has been obtained recently by M. Duflo, M.S. Khalgui and P. Torasso [``Quasi-reductive Lie algebras'', preprint], and this background is covered in section 1 of the paper. In section 3 the authors present a large collection of quasi-reductive biparabolic subalgebras of a semisimple Lie algebra \(\mathfrak{g}\). Section 4 describes the non quasi-reductive parabolic subalgebras for a simple Lie algebra \(\mathfrak{g}\). In fact, there is at least one for each exceptional type (Table 4.1). Quasi-reductivity of parabolic subalgebras is explicitly computed, for \(\mathfrak{g}\) simple of exceptional type, in Section 5, thus completing the corresponding classification.
