The paper deals with the problem \[ -u^{(n)}(t)=f(t,u(t))+\lambda g(t,u(t)),\;t\in(0,1) \] associated with the conditions \[ \enskip u(0)=u'(0)=\cdots=u^{(n-2)}(0)=\sum_{i=1}^mb_iu^{(n-2)}(\alpha_i)-u^{(n-2)}(1)=0.\tag{\(*\)} \] The nonlinearity \(f+\lambda g\) satisfies only local assumptions concerning its smoothness and its growth. The authors provide conditions and apply Schauder's fixed point theorem to guarantee the existence of a solution \(u\) such that \(0\leq u(t)\leq dt^{n-1}\) for all \(t\in[0,1].\) It is also shown that such a solution satisfies \(u^{(l)}(t)>0\) for all \(l=0, 1, \cdots, n-2.\) In the final section, it is shown that, under some rather simple conditions, among the solutions \(u_k\) of the equations \[ -u^{(n)}(t)=f(t,u(t),x_k(t))+\lambda g(t,u(t),y_k(t)),\;t\in(0,1) \] satisfying the conditions \((*)\), there is a subsequence converging uniformly to a solution \(u_0\) of \(-u^{(n)}(t)=f(t,u(t),x_0)+\lambda g(t,u(t),y_0),\) \(t\in(0,1),\) where \((x_0,y_0)\) is the pointwise limit of the sequence \((x_k,y_k)\).
