      The authors define for a polynomial automorphism \(F=(F_1,F_2,F_3): k^3\longrightarrow k^3\) (i.e. \(F\in \text{GA}_n(k)\)) the multidegree \(\mathrm{mdeg}(F)=(\deg(F_1), \deg(F_2), \deg(F_3))\). They show that \(\mathrm{mdeg}(\text{GA}_3(k))\) is strictly larger than \(\mathrm{mdeg}(\text{TA}_3(k))\), where TA denotes the tame automorphism group. For example, if \((5,3,1)\) is a multidegree of an automorphism (and there is an example), then it is wild. They also show that if \(\gcd(d_1,d_2)=1\), then \((d_1,d_2,d_3)\in \mathrm{mdeg}(\text{TA}_3(k))\) if and only if \(d_3=ad_1+bd_2\) for some positive integers \(a,b\).
