In order to study the motivic Atiyah-Hirzebruch spectral sequence relating motivic cohomology to algebraic \(K\)-theory, \textit{V. Voevodsky} [Motives, polylogarithms and Hodge theory. Part I: Motives and polylogarithms. Papers from the International Press conference, Irvine, CA, USA, June 1998. Somerville, MA: International Press. Int. Press Lect. Ser. 3, No. I, 3--34 (2002; Zbl 1047.14012)] introduced the slice filtration in the motivic stable homotopy category as an analogue of the Postnikov tower in motivic homotopy. In this article the author shows building on his earlier work [``Multiplicative properties of slice filtration'', Astérisque 335. Paris: Société Mathématique de France (SMF) (2011; Zbl 1235.14003)] that the layers of the slice filtration can be interpreted as strict modules over Voevodsky's algebraic cobordism spectrum. As an interesting application he then shows how to identify the \(0\)-slices of any given commutative motivic ring spectrum as an oriented ring spectrum in the sense of Morel. As a further consequence he shows that slices with rational coefficients of a symmetric motivic sphere spectrum form a motive in the sense of \textit{D.-C. Cisinski} and \textit{F. Déglise} [``Triangulated categories of mixed motives'', preprint, \url{arXiv:0912.2110}] and that the presheaves of rigid rational homotopy groups of these spectra have transfers, which also confirms a conjecture by V. Voevodsky [loc. cit., (2002) (Conjecture 11)].
