Let \(X\) be a real vector space. A function \(N:X \times \mathbb R \to [0,1]\) is called a fuzzy norm on \(X\) if for all \(x,y \in X\) and all \(s,t \in \mathbb R\), (\(N_1\)) \(N(x,t)=0\) for \(t \leq 0\); (\(N_2\)) \(x=0\) if and only if \(N(x,t)=1\) for all \(t>0\); (\(N_3\)) \(N(cx,t)=N(x,t/|c|)\) if \(c \neq 0\); (\(N_4\)) \(N(x+y,s+t) \geq \min{N(x,s),N(y,t)}\); (\(N_5\)) \(N(x,\cdot)\) is a non--decreasing function of \(\mathbb R\) and \(\lim_{t \to \infty} N(x,t)=1\); (\(N_6\)) for \(x \neq 0\), \(N(x,\cdot)\) is continuous in \(\mathbb R\). The pair \((X,N)\) is called a fuzzy normed space. A sequence \(\{x_n \}\) in \((X,N)\) is said convergent to \(x\) if \(\lim_{n \to \infty} N(x_n-x,t)=1\) for all \(t>0\). A sequence \(\{x_n \}\) is called Cauchy if for each \(\varepsilon>0\) and each \(t>0\) there exists an \(n_0\) such that for all \(n \geq n_0\) and all \(p>0\), we have \(N(x_{n+p}-x_n,t)>1-\varepsilon\). If every Cauchy sequence is convergent, the fuzzy normed space is called fuzzy Banach space. If \(X\) is an algebra and \((X,N)\) is a fuzzy Banach normed space such that \(N(xy,st) \geq N(x,s)N(y,t)\), then it is called a fuzzy Banach algebra. In the framework of fuzzy Banach algebras, the author studies the stability in the sense of Ulam--Hyers of the system of functional equations \[ \begin{cases} f(x)+f(y)+2f(z)=2f(\frac{x+y}{2}+z)\\ f(xy)=f(x)f(y) \end{cases} \] The method used is based on the so--called alternative fixed point theorem. Reviewer's remark: The author quotes Găvruta as the first who replaced the unbounded Cauchy difference by a general control function in a paper appeared in 1994, while the reviewer published a more general result in [``An existence and stability theorem for a class of functional equations'', Stochastica 4, No. 1, 23--30 (1980; Zbl 0442.39005)]. Editorial remark: See also [\textit{W.-G. Park} and \textit{J.-H. Bae}, Kyungpook Math. J. 50, No. 4, 557--564 (2010; Zbl 1232.39026)] for a comment on the reviewer's remark.
