A surface patch can be described as a map \(x(u,v)\) from the unit square to \({\mathbb R}^3\). The edges of the square map to 4 curves that are given. The internal points of the surface are then found as the solution of a weighted biharmonic partial differential equation (PDE) with these given boundary conditions. The authors propose a method to find explicit polynomial solutions of the Euler-Lagrange equation, especially in a Bézier basis. The boundary conditions define boundary control points which are related to the first two rows and columns in the table of points \(a_{ij}\in{\mathbb R}^3\) in the polynomial representation \(x(u,v)=\sum_{i,j=1}^n {a_{ij} \over i!j!}u^iv^j\). The remaining points \(a_{ij}\) can be obtained by a recurrence with explicit expressions for the recurrence coefficients. Special cases including Coons as well as standard or modified biharmonic equations are treated explicitly. Finally the polynomial representation is transformed back to the Bézier control points. The method relies on their previous paper [\textit{J. Monterde} and \textit{H. Ugail}, Comput. Aided Geom. Des. 23, No. 2, 208--225 (2006; Zbl 1083.65014)]. For an explicit solution in a Bernstein basis see also \textit{M. I. Bhatti} and \textit{P. Bracken} [J. Comput. Appl. Math. 205, No. 1, 272--280 (2007; Zbl 1118.65087)].
