In the last few decades, a lot of attention has been paid to linear preserver problems. This paper is devoted to linear spectrum preservers on Banach algebras. Recall that a map \(\phi \) from one Banach algebra into another one is called a spectrum preserver if \(\sigma (\phi (a))=\sigma (a)\) for every \(a\) in the first algebra. Let \(A\) and \(B\) be unital semisimple Banach algebras, \(\phi : M_2(A)\to B\) be a bijective linear map. In this very interesting paper, the authors show that, if \(\phi \) is a spectrum preserver, then \(\phi \) is a Jordan homomorphism.
