Let \(T_n(R)\) denote the ring of \(n\times n\) upper triangular matrices over a commutative ring \(R\). It has been proved by \textit{S. Frisch} [Monatsh. Math. 184, No. 2, 201--215 (2017; Zbl 1375.13009)] that if \(D\) is an integral domain with quotient field \(K\), then\N\[\N\text{Int}_{T_n(K)}(T_n(D)) = \{f\in T_n(K)[x]:\ f(T_n(D))\subset T_n(D)\}\N\]\Nis a ring.\N\NThe authors show that the same holds in the more general case, when \(D\) is replaced by any commutative ring with identity \(R_1\) and \(K\) is replaced by a commutative ring \(R_2\) containing \(R_1\). They study also the set\N\[\Nf\in T_n(R_2)[x]:\ f(\Omega)\subset T_n(R_1),\N\]\Nwhere \(\Omega\subset T_n(R_1)\) and show that for certain sets \(\Omega\) it is a ring.
