As mentioned by the authors in their paper, Moti Gitik posed a question to the second author: Suppose the generalised continuum hypothesis (GCH) holds and \(\kappa\geq\aleph_2\) is a regular cardinal. Is there a GCH-preserving generic extension in which there exists an unbounded set \(A\subseteq \kappa\) such that both \(A\) and \(\kappa\setminus A\) meet every countable subset of \(\kappa\) in the ground model? The authors of the paper under review show that the answer to Gitik's question is affirmative for \(\aleph_2\). More precisely, assuming GCH, there is a strongly proper and \(\aleph_2\)-c.c. forcing of size \(\aleph_2\) which forces a set \(A\) as above. The authors use the method of side conditions to construct the desired notion of forcing. Since the forcing is strongly proper, every countable subset of \(A\) or \(\kappa\setminus A\) belongs to a Cohen generic extension of \(V\). The question remains open for \(\kappa\geq\aleph_3\) and it seems to be challenging and raises an interesting line of research.
