The work is of interest for experts in mathematics of hypercomplex functions, including functions over quaternions, Clifford algebras and octonions. The paper aims to unify previous notions of regularity for functions taking values in an alternative real star algebra and to find interesting new function theories. Section 2 is on hypercomplex subspaces, and hypercomplex bases. It provides a range of examples. Section 3 is on regularity in hypercomplex subspaces. It defines notions such as T-fan and T-torus and related to it J-monogenicity, a J-Cauchy-Riemann operator and J-monogenic and J-harmonic functions. For a domain in quaternions extensive examples are given, including what the authors call (1,3) regular functions, further studied in Section 4. Furthermore, a T-slice domain, a T-stem function, the induced function and a T-function are defined. Section 4 focusses on the particular kind of (1,3) regular quaternionic functions, providing some foundations, polynomial functions, integral and series representations and an identity principle, as well as a representation formula.
