Let \((S,d,\rho)\) be the affine group \(\mathbb R^n\ltimes\mathbb R^+\) endowed with the left-invariant Riemannian metric \(d\) and the right Haar measure \(\rho\), which is of exponential growth at infinity. The authors show the following. For any linear operator \(T\) on \((S,d,\rho)\) associated with a kernel \(K\) satisfying certain integral size condition and Hörmander's condition, the following four statements regarding the corresponding maximal singular integral operator \(T^*\) are equivalent: (a) \(T^*\) is bounded from \(L_c^\infty\) to \(\roman{BMO}\); (b) \(T^*\) is bounded from \(L^p\) to \(L^p\) for all \(p\in(1,\infty)\); (c) \(T^*\) is bounded from \(L^p\) to \(L^p\) for some \(p\in(1,\infty)\), (d) \(T^*\) is bounded from \(L^1\) to \(L^{1,\infty}\). Naturally, estimates for \(T\) itself are already known and surveyed in this article. The authors apply their results to spectral multipliers of a distinguished Laplacian on \((S,d,\rho)\) satisfying a certain Mihlin-Hörmander type condition.
