Let \(p\) be a prime and let \((K,\mathcal{O},k)\) be a \(p\)-modular system. Let \(A\) and \(B\) be \(\mathcal{O}\)-algebras. Two projective indecomposable \((A,B)\)- and \((B,A)\)-bimodules \(M\) and \(N\) are said to induce virtual Morita equivalence between \(A\) and \(B\) if \(M._B N \cong A\) and \(N ._A M\cong B\).\N\NLet \(G,H\) be finite groups, \(b\) and \(c\) blocks of \(\mathcal{O}G\) and \(\mathcal{O}H\), respectively, \(k'\) a sufficiently large field containing \(k\). The author generalizes a theorem of \textit{R. Kessar} and \textit{M. Linckelmann} [Springer Proc. Math. Stat. 242, 181--212 (2018; Zbl 1544.20020)], obtaining a bijection between the irreducible Brauer characters of \(k'Gb\) and \(k'Gc\) subject to the existence of a virtual Morita equivalence between the block algebras, whereas the original result requires the equivalence to be one that is induced from a Morita equivalence (Theorem \(1.1\)).\N\NAs a corollary, the block version of a refinement of Alperin's weight conjecture is obtained for several particular cases (Corollary \(3\)).
