A family of autonomous systems of dimension \(n\) of polynomial differential equations with only linear terms and homogeneous terms of order \(m\) is considered. The family is indexed by a small parameter \(\varepsilon\) and it is considered to be a small perturbation of a system having a zero-Hopf equilibrium at the origin. The problem of counting the number of limit cycles that may bifurcate from the origin is studied here using the averaging method of arbitrary order \(k\). The problem is thus reduced to study the maximum number of common real zeros of the obtained averaged functions of order \(k\). Since here this is a polynomial system, some algebraic methods with exact symbolic computation are used like Bézout theorem, the concept of mixed volume and Bernstein's theorem. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is illustrated by a family of third-order differential equations, a four-dimensional hyperchaotic differential system and a model of nuclear spin generator.
