      For \(n \geq 2\), let \({\mathcal K}_0^n\) denote the family of compact convex subsets of \(\mathbb{R}^n\) with non-empty interior. A set \(K \in {\mathcal K}_0^n\) is stationary for \({\mathcal E}: {\mathcal K}_0^n \to \mathbb{R}^+\) iff \[ \frac{d}{dt } {\mathcal E}((1-t)K+tL)|_{t=0^+} = 0 \;\;\text{for all } L \in {\mathcal K}_0^n. \] The author proves that if \(K\) is a stationary domain for certain classes of functionals \({\mathcal E}\), then \(K\) is a ball in \(\mathbb{R}^n\). This result can be used to prove that if certain overdeterminate boundary value problems set in some smooth bounded domain \(\Omega\) admit solutions, then \(\Omega\) is a ball.
