Let \(\mathbb{H}\) be the upper complex half plane and \(\tau\in\mathbb{H}\). Set \(\theta_3(q)=1+2\sum_{n=0}^\infty q^{n^2}\) where \(q=e^{i\pi\tau}\). \par Let \(m\) be a positive integer and \(a_1,\dots ,a_m\) be \(m\) distinct positive rational numbers. Then the authors prove that the \(m\) functions \(\theta_3(a_i\tau)\), \(i=1,\dots ,m\) in \(\tau\in\mathbb{H}\) are linearly independent over \(\mathbb{C}(\tau)\).\par They also prove that if \(a_1,\dots ,a_m\) are \(m\) distinct positive real numbers then the \(m\) functions \(\theta_3(a_i\tau)\), \(i=1,\dots ,m\) are linearly independent over \(\mathbb{C}\) and some other linear independent results of the values of the function \(\theta_3\).
