This paper under review surveys developments on the deformed Hermitian Yang-Mills (dHYM) equation and introduces a new dHYM flow. The authors already presented some results on this flow in their preprint [``A deformed Hermitian Yang-Mills Flow'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:2105.13576}].\N\NHere they consider the dHYM flow \(u_t=\cot\theta(\chi_u)-\cot\theta_0\), and prove the longtime existence of a smooth solution when \(\theta(\chi_{u_{0}})<\pi\). Moreover, under the subsolution condition, the longtime solution converges to a smooth solution of the dHYM equation, reproving an existence theorem.\N\NAs an application in the Kähler surface case with a semi-subsolution, the authors first prove the non-emptiness of a certain set. They then use a result to analyze the behavior of the flow. \(C^0\) estimates are obtained, and the convergence of \(u_t\) to \(0\) on a compact set is shown. Gradient and second-order estimates are proven, and the local convergence of the flow is established, leading to the main result in this case.\N\NFor the entire collection see [Zbl 1546.14002].
