In this paper, subgroups of a given finite group are investigated which are not contained in any intersection of two different conjugates of another subgroup. Sylow \(p\)-subgroups which are T.I. sets and some further properties of defect groups of a conjugacy class appearing in a primitive central idempotent are then characterized. Furthermore, related to it, so-called W.T.I. sets are studied. They are defined as follows. A Sylow \(p\)-subgroup \(P\) of a finite group \(G\) is called a W.T.I. set if the centralizer of \(Q\) in \(P\) does normalize \(P\) for each non-trivial proper subgroup \(Q\) of \(P\). The authors compare the notion of W.T.I. set with that of T.I sets. By definition, a Sylow \(p\)-subgroup \(P\) of a finite group \(G\) is a T.I. set if and only if: for each non-trivial proper subgroup \(S\) of \(P\) it holds that for no element \(g\in G\) outside the normalizer of \(P\) in \(G\) it is true that such \(S\) is contained in \(P\cap P^g\). Theory of Brauer correspondents, central idempotents and defect groups is involved here.
