The authors study \(k\)-linear triangulated categories \(\mathsf{D}\), where \(k\) is a field, which are classically generated by a 2-spherical object. More precisely, these categories are viewed as the finite derived categories \(\mathsf{D}=\mathsf{D}^f(k[T])\), where \(k[T]\) is considered as a differential graded algebra with \(T\) placed in homological dimension degree 1 and zero differential. This kind of categories are good candidates for cluster categories of Dynkin type \(A_\infty\). The paper starts with a detailed study of the properties of objects and morphisms in the category \(\mathsf{D}\). For instance, indecomposable objects and the Auslander-Reiten quiver associated to \(\mathsf{D}\) are described in Section 1, while the homomorphisms between indecomposable objects are described in Proposition 2.2. As a consequence of this proposition, the authors conclude that there are two types of morphisms into indecomposable objects, called forward morphisms, respectively backward morphisms (Remark 2.4). The main results of the paper describe the weak cluster tilting subcategories of \(\mathsf{D}\) (Theorem 4.3 and Theorem 4.4). Moreover, it is proved that the clusters form a cluster structure in \(\mathsf{D}\) (Theorem 5.2).
