After exploring the ``prehistory'' of the St. Petersburg school of linear groups in his earlier article [Vestn. St. Petersbg. Univ., Math. 56, No. 3, 273--288 (2023; Zbl 1526.01024); translation from Vestn. St-Peterbg. Univ., Ser. I, Mat. Mekh. Astron. 10(68), No. 3, 381--405 (2023)], the author now shifts focus to the significant contributions of Andrei Suslin and his students, highlighting their influence on the mathematical advancements within this school. The author manages three difficult aims in a wonderful way:\N\begin{itemize}\N\item Tracing the historical development of the St. Petersburg school of linear groups together with the evolution of the related areas.\N\item Historically and mathematically summarizing the extraordinary influence of Suslin's work across diverse mathematical areas.\N\item Providing insightful guidance on areas such as classical groups, algebraic groups over rings and algebraic \(K\)-theory.\N\end{itemize}\N\NThe third and fourth articles planned in this survey would have beautifully completed the remarkable story. Unfortunately, however, we lost the esteemed author in 2023, leaving the project probably unfinished.
