In this work, homogeneus numerical semigroups are introduced. Let $S$ be a numerical semigroup and $G(S)$ be the tangent cone of $k[S]$. It is proved that if $S$ is homogeneous and the tangent cone $G(S)$ is Cohen-Macaulay, then $S$ is of homogeneous type. Using that the Cohen-Macaulay property of $G(S)$ can be checked in terms of the Apéry set of $S$, a method to know from the Apéry set if $S$ is homogeneous is given. Furthermore, it is proved that there exists a positive integer $L$ such that for any $j>L$, all the numerical semigroups generated by sequences of the form $n_1+j,\dots,n_d+j$ are homogeneous, have Cohen-Macaulay tangent cone, and are of homogeneous type. The case of embedding dimension $3$ is studied and some families of examples are provided for embedding dimension $4$. For dimension $3$, all numerical semigroups of homogeneous type are classified into numerical semigroups with complete intersection tangent cones and the homogeneous ones which are not symmetric with Cohen-Macaulay tangent cones. The behaviour of the homogeneous property is also studied by gluing and shiftings to construct large families of homogeneous numerical semigroups with Cohen-Macaulay tangent cones.
