Symmetry reduction and soliton-like solutions for the generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation (Q669526)

The authors discuss symmetries of the generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation $u_t=u_{xxx}+f(u)_x$. In particular, they determine the Lie algebras of symmetries of that equation, and characterize the functions $f$ that lead to the Lie algebras of symmetries of dimension greater than $2$. A few explicit soliton solutions are determined.
