This paper is concerned with the initial value problem for a semilinear Schrödinger equation \[ i\partial_tu+\Delta u+ N(u,\overline u)=0,\quad u(x,0)=\Phi(x),\quad x\in\mathbb{R}^2,\quad t\in\mathbb{R},\tag{1} \] where \(N(\cdot,\cdot)\) is a quadratic form. The author proves that if \(N(u,\overline u)=\overline u^2\), then for any \(\Phi\in H^{-\rho}(\mathbb{R}^2)\), \(\rho\in[0,1/2)\), there exist \(T= T(|\Phi|_{H^{-\rho}})>0\) and a unique solution \(u\) of (1) in the time interval \([0,T]\) satisfying \[ u\in C([0,T]: H^{-\rho}(\mathbb{R}^2)),\quad u\in X^{-\rho,b},\quad\overline u^2\in X^{-\rho,b'-1} \] for some \(b'>b>1/2\), where \(X^{s,b}\) is the set of functions with the norm \[ |F|_{X^{s,b}}= \left(\int_{\mathbb{R}^2}\int_{\mathbb{R}} (1+ |\tau-|\xi|^2|)^{2b}(1+ |\xi|)^{2s}|F(\xi,\tau)|^2 d\tau d\xi\right)^{1/2}. \] Furthermore, the solution depends on the initial function Lipschitz continuously. This is a generalization of the result of Kenig, Ponce and Vega in a forthcoming paper in Trans. Am. Math. Soc. on the equations on a line or on a circle. The nonlinear term is confined to \(\overline u^2\), since the key estimate used in the proof \(|\overline u^2|_{X^{s,1-b}}\leq C|u|^2_{X^{s,b}}\) does not hold if \(\overline u^2\) is replaced by \(\overline uu\) for \(s\in(-1/2,0]\), and no results have not been proved yet for \(u^2\) and \(s<0\).
