For a given set \(M\), a function \(d : M\times M \to\;[0,\infty)\) satisfying \(d(x,y)=0\) if and only if \(x=y\) is called a generalized distance measure on \(M\). In [Linear Algebra Appl. 439, No. 1, 174--188 (2013; Zbl 1297.47038)], \textit{T. Abe} et al. determined the structure of isometries on \(\mathrm{SO}(n)\) with respect to the metric induced by any \(c\)-spectral norm and posed the problem of describing the isometries with respect to any unitary invariant norm. In this paper, the author essentially solves this problem by determining the so-called generalized isometries of \(\mathrm{SO}(n)\) preserving the generalized distance measures on \(\mathrm{SO}(n)\) satisfying \(d_{N,f}(A,B)=N(f(A^{-1}B))\), where \(N\) is a unitary invariant norm and \(f : \mathbb{T} \to\;\mathbb{C}\) is a bounded function with five properties chosen so that \(z \mapsto (z-1)\) and \(z\mapsto \log z\) are included (giving the norm distance and the geodesic distance, commonly used in computer applications).
