Optimal control of undamped Sobolev-type retarded systems (Q679845)

The authors study an abstract distributed system of second order with respect to time without damping involving perturbation of retarded type. Main results concern the unique solvability and representation of the solution. Next, for such systems, an optimal control problem with a quadratic cost functional, existence of a unique optimal control is proved. Finally, an application to an optimal control problem for partial differential equations that are not of Kovalevskaya type is presented. In particular such systems model the bending waves in a rod.
