The interesting paper under review deals with perturbation estimates for self-adjoint first-order partial differential operators \(\mathrm{D}\) and \(\tilde{\mathrm{D}}\) of Dirac type which are elliptic with domains \(W^{1,2}(\mathcal{M},\mathcal{V})\) in \(L^{2}(\mathcal{M},\mathcal{V})\) on vector bundles \(\mathcal{V}\) over complete Riemannian manifolds \((\mathcal{M},g).\) The authors motivating model is that given by \(D=\mathrm D\kern -7pt / \kern +2 pt\) with \(\mathrm D\kern -7pt / \kern +2 pt\) being the Atiyah-Singer Dirac operator on \(\mathcal{M}\) acting on sections of a given spin bundle \(\mathcal{V}=\mathrm D\kern -7pt / \kern +2 pt\, \mathcal{M}\) over \((\mathcal{M},g).\) In that case, the corresponding perturbations \(\tilde{\mathrm{D}}\) arise from the pullback of the Atiyah-Singer operator on a nearby manifold \((\mathcal{N},h).\) The main result of the paper asserts that the Atiyah-Singer Dirac operator \(\mathrm D\kern -7pt / \kern +2 pt_g\) in \(L^2\) depends Riesz continuously on \(L^\infty\) perturbations of the complete metric \(g.\) Precisely, the Lipschitz bound for the map \(g\mapsto \mathrm D\kern -7pt / \kern +2 pt_g \big(1+\mathrm D\kern -7pt / \kern +2 pt_g^2\big)^{1/2}\) depends on bounds of the Ricci curvature and its first derivatives as well as on a lower bound of the injectivity radius. The proofs rely harmonic analysis techniques related to the Calderón first commutator and the Kato square root problem. Perturbation results are also shown for more general functions of general Dirac type operators on vector bundles.
