In the present paper, the authors build upon a previous work of them [Math. Z. 280, No. 3--4, 1185--1202 (2015; Zbl 1329.14010)] where they defined the concept of Mori dream stacks. Now they show how to lift a map of \(\mathbb{Q}\)-factorial Mori dream spaces to a map of Mori dream stacks in such a way that the former is obtained from the latter by passing to coarse moduli spaces. More precisely, let \(\phi :X\to Y\) be a map of \(\mathbb{Q}\)-factorial Mori dream spaces. The authors show that there is a unique Cox lift \(\Phi:\mathcal{X}\to \mathcal{Y}\) of Mori dream stacks coming from a homogeneous homomorphism \(\mathcal{R}(Y)=\mathcal{R}(\mathcal{Y})\to \mathcal{R}(\mathcal{X}),\) where \(\mathcal{Y}\) is a canonical stack of \(Y,\) \(\mathcal{X}\) is obtained from \(X\) by roots constructions, and \(\phi\) is induced from \(\Phi\) by passing to coarse moduli spaces. The construction is illustrated by means of examples. There is a very simple one in the introduction in order to motivate the tecnique, and more elaborated ones in the end of the paper that show the construction in practice. The idea of the paper is that may not be possible to pull an \(r\in \mathcal{R}(Y),\) but when \(Y\) is at least \(\mathbb{Q}\)-factorial, then some positive multiple \(r^n\) becomes Cartier, so there is a pullback \(\phi^*(r^n)\in \mathcal{R}(X).\) In order to get a homomorphism they add roots of \(r^n\) to \(\mathcal{R}(X).\)
