A local analysis of wave propagation properties is presented, and instabilities are investigated in a magnetized, self-gravitating fluid with an inhomogeneous temperature profile and with dissipative processes of magnetic and thermal diffusion taken into account. The considered linear harmonic waves are taken to propagate in the direction of variation of the basic state quantities, in one dimension and in planar geometry. An instability criterion, depending on the temperature gradient was derived and the obtained results were applied to the plasma conditions in our Galaxy.
