The paper proposes Conjecture A: if \(G\) is a finite group, \(H\le G\) is cyclic and \(\theta\in\mathrm{Irr}(H)\), then \(\theta^G\) has an irreducible constituent \(\chi\) with \(\chi(1)\) dividing \(|G:H|\). This conjecture implies a conjecture by \textit{G. Qian} [Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 53, No. 3, 820--824 (2021; Zbl 1493.20003)] on divisibility of \(|G:\ker\chi|/\chi(1)\) by the order \(o(g)\) for a given element \(g\in G\).\N\NTheorem B reduces Conjecture A to Condition 2.1 for quasi-simple groups. In this condition, \(S\) is quasi-simple with cyclic center \(Z(S)\) and one considers a cyclic subgroup \(A\le \mathrm{Aut}(S)\) and a cyclic subgroup \(V\le S\) centralized by \(A\). It requires a character \(\chi\in\mathrm{Irr}(S)\) such that \(\chi(1)[A:\mathrm{Stab}_A(\chi) ]\) divides \(|S:V|\) and \(\chi|_V\) contains every \(\lambda\in\mathrm{Irr}(V|\nu)\) with \(\lambda\neq 1_V\), where \(\nu\in\mathrm{Irr}(Z(S))\) is faithful. Theorem C then proves Conjecture A for finite groups with abelian Sylow \(2\)-subgroups.\N\NFor solvable groups, Theorem E considers nilpotent subgroups \(H\le G\): it yields, for \(\theta\in\mathrm{Irr}(H)\), an induced constituent \(\chi\) with \(\chi(1)\) dividing \(|G:H|\theta(1)\) and it also proves a restriction analogue for \(\chi\in\mathrm{Irr}(G)\).
