Let \(A\) be a bialgebra over a commutative ring \(k\), \(M\) both a left \(A\)- module and left \(A\)-comodule. \textit{D. N. Yetter} defined a compatibility- type condition on the two structures on \(M\), which the authors of the paper under review call a left-left Yetter-Drinfeld structure [Math. Proc. Camb. Philos. Soc. 108, No. 2, 261-290 (1990; Zbl 0712.17014)]. Yetter showed the category of such \(M\) has a natural prebraiding, which is a braiding if \(A^{\text{coop}}\) is a Hopf algebra. The authors here study this category and its left-right variations, and give examples of where they arise, focusing on invertibility questions pertaining to prebraiding maps. In particular, they generalize the idea of a braided algebra to that of a weakly braided algebra \(A\), and show that every left \(A\)-comodule has a Yetter-Drinfeld structure, but also that not every such structure arises in this way.
