A method for adaptive construction of nearly optimal finite element meshes is presented. A mesh selection approach for parametrized problems is studied. This is basically a one step method, but degenerates to an iterative method when the first guess is deemed inappropriate. For parametrized problems, a sequence of problems is solved, and optimal meshes often change little from step to step. This enables to compare previous meshes so as to allow good predictions of future meshes. Thus, the proposed method generally avoids the initial coarse mesh solution, only requiring the solution on the final mesh predicted from previous optimal meshes.
