In \(\ell_\infty\), let \(T\) be the left shift operator, i.e., \(T(x_1, x_2, \dots)= (x_2, x_3, \dots)\). It is well known that the kernel \(N(T^*-I) \subseteq \ell_\infty^*\) is an AL-space, thus order isometric to a space \(L_1(\Omega, \mu)\). Let \(\Omega= \Omega_d \cup \Omega_c\) be the partition into the discrete and continuous part of \(\mu\). Finally, if \(\mathcal{B}\) denotes the set of Banach limits, then it decomposes as \(\mathcal{B} = \mathcal{B}_d \oplus \mathcal{B}_c\), since $\mathcal B$ is the positive part of the unit sphere of \(N(T^*-I) \). On such subsets of Banach limits, the authors provide conditions under which an operator coincides with the identity operator.
