The classical Lagrange interpolation polynomial of a function \(f\) for nodes \( x_1,\ldots, x_n \) can be written in barycentric form as \N\[ \N\frac{\sum_iw_is_if(x_i)/(x-x_i)}{\sum_iw_is_i/(x-x_i)},\N\]\Nwhere \N\[\Ns_i=\mathrm{sign}\, \left(\prod_{j\neq i}(x_i-x_j)\right)\N\]\Nare the parities of the nodes. Weights \( w_1,\ldots,w_n \) lead to self-dual orthogonal polynomials on \( \{x_1,\ldots, x_n\}. \) From the introduction: ``In the first part of the paper we examine the deep connection between the distribution of parity based sums and the Gauss hypergeometric function for specific values of the argument. The second part is concerned with asymptotic properties of these sums. Some open problems are formulated.''
