The method of multiple-scale expansion is used to average formally a linear diffusion-convection-reaction equation posed for a porous medium with a very particular arrangement of microstructures. The performed asymptotic analysis is formal, but, in the same time, sufficiently powerful to deliver explicit calculation formulae for all effective coefficients.\N\NNumerical illustrations are used to point out a couple of macroscopic effects. As far as I can see, very similar results (possibly the same) are likely to be obtained by employing for the very same problem the so-called locally-periodic homogenization concept (which allows for formal calculations that can be justified mathematically in a rigorous fashion).
