In the paper under review, the author studies certain special ideals in the Hurwitz series ring, namely \(z\)-ideals and \(z^{\circ}\)-ideals. Let \(R\) be a commutative ring with identity and \(S\) a subset of \(R\), we denote by \(M_S\) (resp., \(P_S\)) the intersection of all maximal ideals (resp., minimal prime ideals) containing the set \(S\). If \(S = \{a\}\), we simply write \(M_a\) and \(P_a\) instead of \(M_S\) and \(P_S\), respectively. In the context of the Hurwitz series ring, the author writes \(\mathcal{M}_S\) (resp., \(\mathcal{P}_S\) ) instead of \(M_S\) (resp., \(P_S\) ). An ideal \(I\) of a ring \(R\) is called \(z\)-ideal (resp., \(z^{\circ}\)-ideal) if for each \(a \in I\), \(M_a \subseteq I\) (resp., \(P_a \subseteq I\)). Also, an ideal \(I\) of a ring \(R\) is called \(\aleph_0\)-\(z^{\circ}\)-ideal of \(R\) if for every \(S \subseteq I\) such that \(|S|\leq \aleph_0\) we have \(P_S \subseteq I\). \N\NThe author starts the paper with a full description of the \(z\)-ideals of the Hurwitz series ring \(HR\). Indeed, he proves that the \(z\)-ideals of \(HR\) are of the form \(\epsilon^{-1}(I)\), where \(I\) is a \(z\)-ideal of \(R\), and \(\epsilon\) is the homomorphism from \(HR\) onto \(R\) with \(\epsilon(a_0+a_1X+\cdots)=a_0\). After that, he turns to the study of the minimal prime ideals of the Hurwitz series ring. To obtain a full characterization of the minimal prime ideals of \(HR\), he examines the primeness of the ideal \(HP\) when \(P\) is prime. In fact, the author shows that this property holds when \(P\) is a minimal prime ideal and when the ring \(R\) is a \(\mathbb{Z}\)-torsion-free module. Moreover, he introduces the notion of a nicely-contractible ideal, that is, an ideal \(\mathcal{I}\) of \(HR\) such that \(H(\mathcal{I} \cap R) \subseteq \mathcal{I}\). \N\NThe central importance of this class of ideals emerges when he establishes that if the ring \(R\) is a \(\mathbb{Z}\)-torsion-free module, then all minimal prime ideals of the ring \(HR\) are nicely-contractible if and only if the minimal prime ideals of \(HR\) are of the form \(HP\) where \(P \in \mathrm{Min}(R)\). This characterization allows him to study the \(z^{\circ}\)-ideals of \(HR\). In fact, he proves that if the ring \(R\) is torsion-free \(\mathbb{Z}\)-module, \(I\) an ideal of \(R\), and all the minimal prime ideals of the ring \(HR\) are nicely-contractible then:\N\begin{itemize}\N\item[1.] \(I\) is an \(\aleph_0\)-\(z^{\circ}\)-ideal of \(R\) if and only if \(HI\) is an \(z^{\circ}\)-ideal of \(HR\).\N\item[2.] If \(\mathcal{I}\) is a \(z^{\circ}\)-ideal of \(HR\), then \(\mathcal{I} \subseteq H(\mathcal{I} \cap R)\).\N\item[3.] If \(\mathcal{I}\) is a \(\aleph_0\)-\(z^{\circ}\)-ideal of \(HR\), then the equality holds.\N\end{itemize}
