The paper under review deals with a quantum version of isometric group actions on compact metric spaces. In fact, the authors propose a notion of ``isometric coaction'' of a compact quantum group on a compact quantum metric space, where in this context a compact quantum metric space is given by a unital \(C^*\)-algebra that comes equipped with a quantum metric (encoded by a so-called Lipnorm). They then show that this notion extends both the classical notion and a semi-classical notion introduced by \textit{T. Banica} [Pac. J. Math. 219, No. 1, 27--51 (2005; Zbl 1104.46039)], namely, the case of a compact quantum group acting on a finite metric space. Inspired by the classical result that any group acting on a metric space has a largest subgroup acting isometrically, they further study the problem of the existence of a quantum isometry group for a given compact quantum metric space and manage to prove its existence for small concrete examples. To prove its existence in the general case, they strengthen the notion of isometric coaction to so-called ``full-isometric coaction''. They finally show that both notions coincide in some situations and point out that (so far) they do not have examples where both notions do not coincide.
