The authors study minimal surfaces of general type with \(p_g=2, q=1\) and \(K^2=5\). For these invariants the Albanese fibration is a genus 2 fibration. Using the general results about genus 2 fibrations of \textit{E. Horikawa} [Complex Anal. algebr. Geom., Collect. Pap. dedic. K. Kodaira, 79--90 (1977; Zbl 0349.14021)] and \textit{F. Catanese} and \textit{R. Pignatelli} [Ann. Sci. Éc. Norm. Supér. (4) 39, No. 6, 1011--1049 (2006; Zbl 1125.14023)] and a careful and detailed analysis, the authors study give a stratification of the moduli space of minimal surfaces of general type with \(p_g=2, q=1\) and \(K^2=5\), show that the dimension of this moduli space cannot exceed 13 (by general theory it has at least dimension 12), that this moduli space is unirational and that it has at least two irreducible components of dimension bigger or equal to 12.
