Let consider the \(q\)-multiple zeta-star values defined by \N\[\N\xi^\star_n(q;m,s)=\sum_{1\leq i_1\leq\cdots \leq i_m\leq n-1}\frac{1}{(1-q^{i_1})^s\cdots (1-q^{i_m})^s}. \N\]\NThe purpose of this paper is to show some fundamental ways to find the values, and give explicit expressions of the values of \(\xi^\star_n(q;m,s)\), when \(q=\zeta_n\) is the root of unity, and \(m\) or \(s\) are comparatively small. These explicit formulas can be expressed by using the determinants or Bell polynomials.
