    Let \(p\) be a polynomial of degree \(n\). The authors generalize and improve the work of \textit{A. Aziz} and \textit{N. A. Rather} [Math. Inequal. Appl. 7, No. 3, 393--403 (2004; Zbl 1057.30003)], \textit{V. K. Jain} [Proc. Indian Acad. Sci., Math. Sci. 110, No. 2, 137--146 (2000; Zbl 0960.30003)] and \textit{A. Aziz} and \textit{Q. M. Dawood} [J. Approximation Theory 54, No. 3, 306--313 (1988; Zbl 0663.41019)] concerning the maximum modulus of a polynomial and the maximum modulus of its derivative. The paper contains two main theorems. Theorem 1: If \(p\) is a polynomial of degree \(n\), having all its zeros in \(|z|\leq k\), \(k\leq 1\), then for \(|\beta|\leq 1\) \[ \max_{|z|=1}\big|zp^\prime(z)+\displaystyle\frac{n\beta}{1+k}p(z)\big|\geq\frac{n}{1+k}\Big[\{1+\mathrm{Re}(\beta)\}\max _{|z|=1}|p(z)| \] \[ +\frac{1}{k^n}\{|1+k+\beta|-1-\Re(\beta)\}\min_{|z|=k}|p(z)|\Big]. \] Equality holds for \(p(z)=(z+k)^n\), \(\beta\geq 0\). Theorem 2: If \(p\) is a polynomial of degree \(n\) having no zeros in\(|z|<k\), \(k\geq 1\), then for \(|\beta|\leq 1\) \[ \max_{|z|=1}\Big|p(Rk^2z)+\beta\Big(\frac{Rk+1}{1+k}\Big)^n p(k^2z)\Big| \] \[ \leq\frac{1}{2}\Big[ \Big\{ k^n \Big| R^n+\beta \Big(\frac{Rk+1}{1+k}\Big)^n\Big|+\Big| 1+\beta \Big(\frac{Rk+1}{1+k}\Big)^n\Big|\Big\}\max_{|z|=k} |p(z)| \] \[ -\Big\{k^n\Big|R^n+\beta\Big(\frac{Rk+1}{1+k}\Big)^n\Big|- \Big|1+\beta\Big(\frac{Rk+1}{1+k}\Big)^n\Big|\Big\}\min_{|z|=k} |p(z)|. \] The result is best possible and equality holds for \(p(z)=\lambda k^n+\gamma z^n\), \(|\lambda|\geq|\gamma|\).
