      Let \(\mathcal{L}(H)\) be the \(^{\star}\)-algebra of all bounded operators on a separable Hilbert space \(H\). Suppose \(\mathcal{I}\) is an arbitrary (two-sided) ideal on \(\mathcal{L}(H)\) (i.e., \(A,C\in\mathcal{L}(H)\) and \(B\in \mathcal{I}\) \(\Longrightarrow ABC\in\mathcal{I}\)).\N\begin{itemize}\N\item A linear functional \(\varphi: \mathcal{I} \rightarrow\mathbb{C}\) is a trace if for all \(A\in\mathcal{I}\), \( B\in\mathcal{L}(H)\)\N\[\N\varphi(AB)=\varphi(BA).\N\]\N\item A trace \(\varphi\) is positive if \(\varphi(A)\geq0\) when \(0\leq A\in \mathcal{I}\).\N\item A trace \(\varphi\) on \(\mathcal{I}\) is regular if the functional\N\[\N\varphi_A: B\mapsto\varphi(AB),\quad B\in\mathcal{L}(H)\N\]\Nis continuous (in the uniform norm) for each \(A\in\mathcal{I}\).\N\end{itemize}\N\NOn a Banach ideal, the set of continuous traces is spanned by the set of positive traces. The goal of this paper is to extend this result to an arbitrary ideal by finding the property of a trace which should replace the continuity in the absence of topology.\N\NThus, the authors show that \textit{on an arbitrary ideal \(\mathcal{I}\in\mathcal{L}(H)\), the set of all regular traces is the linear span of the set of positive traces}. This main result is proven by combining two other results:\N\begin{itemize}\N\item Every positive trace on \(\mathcal{I}\) is regular.\N\item Every regular trace \(\varphi\) on \(\mathcal{I}\) can be written as a linear combination of four positive traces on \(\mathcal{I}\).\N\end{itemize}
