This interesting paper is motivated by the problem of finding mapping properties of Toeplitz operators acting on the Bergman space \(A^p(D)\) on a strongly pseudoconvex domain \(D\) in \(\mathbb{C}^n\). The Bergman space \(A^p(D)\) is the space of all holomorphic functions on \(D\) that also belong to \(L^p(D).\) The Bergman projection \(P\) is the integral operator \[ Pf(z) = \int_D f(w)K(z, w) dV(w) \] where \(K(z, w)\) is the Bergman kernel and \(f\in L^p(D), 1 < p < \infty\). For a symbol \(u\in L^{\infty}(D)\), the Toeplitz operator \(T_u\) is defined as \[ T_ug(z) = \int_D u(w)g(w)K(z, w) dV(w). \] \textit{Ž. Čučković} and \textit{J. McNeal} [Rev. Mat. Iberoam. 22, No. 3, 851--866 (2006; Zbl 1124.32004)] studied Toeplitz operators with symbol \(\delta^{\eta}\), where \(\delta(w) = \text{dist} (w, \partial D)\) and \(\eta > 0\). They showed that in certain cases the Toeplitz operator \(T_{\delta^{\eta}}\) maps \(A^p(D)\) into \(A^{p+G}(D)\), where \(G\) is a positive gain that dependes on \(n, p\) and \(\eta\). They also showed the gain is sharp in dimension \(n = 1\). The authors of this paper generalize this result by studying Toeplitz operators whose symbols are Carleson measures. First they give a geometric characterization of Carleson measures of weighted Bergman spaces on \(D\) in terms of Kobayashi balls \(B(z, r)\). Given \(\theta > 0\), a finite positive Borel measure \(\mu\) is called a \(\theta\)-Carleson measure if for all \(r\in (0, 1)\) there is a constant \(C_r > 0\) such that \[ \mu(B(z, r)) \leq C_r V(B(z, r))^{\theta} \] for all \(z \in D\). In its simplest form, the authors show that for \(1 < p < r < \infty\), \(T_{\mu}\) maps \(A^p(D)\) into \(A^r(D)\) continuously if and only if \(\mu\) is \((1 + \frac {1}{p} - \frac {1}{r})\)-Carleson. They also show the result is sharp in all dimensions.
