Piecewise polynomial splines in two dimensions are considered. They are defined on rectangular domains \([a,b]\times[c,d]\). The degree of the splines is limited to two, and for the spaces of splines of this degree, local bases, B-splines, are considered, and therefore in particular the dimension of the spline-space is found. The bases are not only formally derived but a computational method for getting them is provided. The admitted triangulations are criss-cross but non-uniform. Both maintaining and not-maintaining the given smoothness across the triangulations inside the rectangular domain are admitted in the authors' constructions.
