\textit{D. G. Quillen} [Homotopical algebra. Berlin-Heidelberg-New York: Springer-Verlag (1967; Zbl 0168.20903)] transfinitely constructed weak factorization systems by what is dubbed the \textit{small object argument}. This paper aims to find a variant of the small object argument in the context of enriched category theory, where enrichment is over a cofibrantly generated weak factorization system.\N\NThe basic idea is as follows. Given a \(\mathcal{V}\)-enriched category \(\mathcal{K}\), there is an object \(\mathrm{Sq}\left( f,k\right) \)\ in \(\mathcal{V}\)\ for each pair of morphisms \(f:A\rightarrow B,k:C\rightarrow D\)\ from the underlying category \(\mathcal{K}_{0}\), which makes the category of morphisms in the underlying category of \(\mathcal{K}\)\ a \(\mathcal{V} \)-category with \(\mathrm{Sq}\left( f,k\right) \)\ serving as a hom-object. The object \(\mathrm{Sq}\left( f,k\right) \)\ can be viewed as a pullback of \(\mathcal{K}\left( f,D\right) ,\mathcal{K}\left( A,k\right) \), which leads to an induced map \(\left\langle f,k\right\rangle :\mathcal{K}\left( B,C\right) \rightarrow\mathrm{Sq}\left( f,k\right) \). This map is an isomorphism iff \(f\)\ has the left lifting property with respect to \(k\)\ in the enriched sense [\textit{R. B. B. Lucyshyn-Wright}, Theory Appl. Categ. 29, 475--495 (2014; Zbl 1305.18004)], which has a natural generalization. The author's variant of the small object argument then involves an enriched category \(\mathcal{K}\), a base of enrichment \(\mathcal{V}\), a class \(\mathcal{J}\)\ of morphisms in \(\mathcal{V}_{0}\), and a class \(\mathcal{I} \)\ of morphisms in \(\mathcal{K}_{0}\). In order to perform the small object argument, the author finds suitable conditions on \(\mathcal{K}\), \(\mathcal{V} \), \(\mathcal{J}\), and \(\mathcal{I}\), showing that the small object argument can be performed under these conditions.
