The Rouquier dimension of an essentially small triangulated category \(\mathcal{T}\), denoted \(\operatorname{Rdim}(\mathcal{T})\), is the minimal integer n, for which there exists an object \(G\) such that every object in \(\mathcal{T}\) can be generated by \(G\) by using summands, shifts, finite direct sums, and at most n cones. Such an object \(G\) is called a strong generator. Similarly, an object \(H\) in \(\mathcal{T}\) is called a classical generator if every object in \(\mathcal{T}\) can be generated by \(H\) by using summands, shifts, finite direct sums, and finitely many extensions.\N\NOriginally defined in [\textit{R. Rouquier}, J. \(K\)-Theory 1, No. 2, 193--256 (2008; Zbl 1165.18008)], there is a vast literature on computations of Rouquier dimension for various triangulated categories arising from algebraic geometry and representation theory. In algebraic geometry, a major impetus for such computations is a conjecture by Orlov which states that \(\operatorname{Rdim}(D^b_{\operatorname{coh}}(X)) = \operatorname{dim} X\) for any smooth quasiprojective variety X.\N\NThis paper investigates the generation properties of the bounded derived categories of a non-commutative coherent algebra \(\mathcal{A}\) with its underlying scheme \(X\) using the pushforward along the structure map \(\pi : \mathcal{O}_X \to \mathcal{A}\). The first main result shows that if \(\mathcal{A}\) has full support, then the pushforward \(\mathbf{R}\pi_\ast G\) of a classical generator of \(D^b_{\operatorname{coh}}(\mathcal{A})\) is a classical generator for \(D^b_{\operatorname{coh}}(X)\). The authors then use this result to get an explicit bound on Rouquier dimension when \(X\) is an affine scheme and \(D^b_{\operatorname{coh}}(\mathcal{A})\) has a classical generator satisfying some mild conditions. Finally, the authors prove that for a large class of Noetherian schemes \(X\) of finite Krull dimension (this class includes varieties over any base field), the Rouquier dimension of \(D^b_{\operatorname{coh}}(\mathcal{A})\) for any non-commutative coherent algebra \(\mathcal{A}\) of full support is bounded below by the Krull dimension of \(X\). This is a non-commutative analogue of a result by \textit{R. Rouquier} [J. \(K\)-Theory 1, No. 2, 193--256 (2008; Zbl 1165.18008)], and the proof goes by comparing the Rouquier dimension of \(D^b_{\operatorname{coh}}(\mathcal{A})\) and \(D^b_{\operatorname{coh}}(X)\).
