Let \(G\) stand for the points of the affine Kac-Moody group \(\mathbf{G}\) over the local field \(\mathbb{F}_q((s))\). Let \(\mathbf{G}^e\) denote the full affine Kac-Moody group and let \(G^e\) stand for the corresponding \(\mathbb{F}_q((s))\)-points. In the paper under the review, the author establishes a local Birkhoff decomposition for a certain subset \(G^+ \subset G^e\). More precisely, for subgroups \(K\) and \(K_{\infty}\) of \(G\) roughly of the form equal to \(\mathbf{G}(\mathbb{F}_q[[s]])\) and \(\mathbf{G}(\mathbb{F}_q[[s^{-1}]])\) respectively, the author shows that each \((K, K_{\infty})\) double coset of \(G^+\) has a representative in the torus corresponding to a dominant weight.\N\NThe second main result of the paper is a finiteness theorem for a set whose cardinality is related to spherical \(R\)-polynomials in double-affine Kazhdan-Lusztig theory.
